In recognition of the vital role played by farmers in the agricultural sector and their commendable resilience in the face of challenges, the Rural Agricultural Development Authority (RADA) organized a Farmers Appreciation Day on the grounds of the RADA St. Andrew Parish Office on April 25, 2023. The event was held as part of the celebration of Farmers Month, aimed to honour and acknowledge the significant contributions of farmers while providing them with well-deserved support.

The Farmers Appreciation Day organized by RADA served as a meaningful tribute to the resilience, hard work, and perseverance of farmers. Although impacted by adverse weather conditions, market fluctuations, and the ongoing pandemic which have all posed formidable challenges to their livelihoods, farmers managed to rise above the circumstances and achieve noteworthy increases in their production. This remarkable accomplishment further emphasized their unwavering dedication and resourcefulness.

During the formal programme hosted by the CEO Mr. Winston Simpson, he thanked the farmers for their resilience and encouraged the farmers to continue to produce.  Also in attendance were both Ministers’ Pearnel Charles Jr and Minister and Franklin Witter and other Ministry officials.

One of the highlights of the Farmers Appreciation Day was the gifting of an assortment of agricultural inputs to the farmers. RADA collaborated with various stakeholders and sponsors Agro Depot and Caribbean Chemicals who supplied fertilizer and chemicals to the farmers.  RADA provided for distribution fruit trees, livestock kits and additional fertilizers and chemicals.  The Home Economics Unit prepared gift bags with food items while RADA St. Andrew was good enough to provide refreshments and lunch to all attendees.

The Farmers Appreciation Day organized by RADA during Farmers Month served as a meaningful tribute to the resilience, hard work, and perseverance of farmers. Despite the challenges faced in recent years, farmers have managed to overcome obstacles and increase their production. The event provided a platform for farmers to connect, celebrate their achievements, and receive valuable agricultural inputs. Through such initiatives, RADA and its partners continue to demonstrate their unwavering support for the farming community, acknowledging their significant contributions to the nation's food security and economic development
